Street Photography Black and White

Street Photography Black and White.  A small collection of some black and white street photography shots. Street photographs are images of society, where the candid capture of scenes provides an alternative window on a dynamic world. Street photography is the art of capturing life, culture, and humanity, candidly. The best thing about street photography is that it is possible for the final viewer of a print to see more than the original photographer.

One of the great things about a city is that more things are happening, even within a small neighborhood, at any moment than any human can comprehend. An observer can miss facial expressions, gestures and implied motion. However the camera lens misses none of these. A moment in time are captured forever. A chronology of moments of daily life, stopped for close examination of the nuances that make plain living so interesting.

Photography allows us to freeze one of those moments and study all of the small dramas that were taking place. I captured these images in color and converted to black and white. I sometimes use color in my street collection. However only if the situation dictates. And the message is enhanced by it. The collection below represents three continents over many years of travel. I periodically update this post with additional images . Check back for the latest additions to  Street Photography Black and White

In the USA, the protection of free speech includes photography.

The case of Nussenzweig v. DiCorcia established that taking, publishing and selling street photography is legal. The case established a photographer could display, publish, and sell street photography without the consent of the subjects. Photography is seen as free speech and art, protected by the First Amendment.
