Daily Photos – Galveston Island Historic Homes

I took an early morning drive to Galveston. I was hoping to catch the light and a few pictures of some Galveston Island Historic Homes. Galveston has some great old homes from the late 1800s. Many are kept in immaculate condition by private owners. In addition the local historical society provides support. It’s worth a look. The Spanish Governor and General Bernardo de Galvez provided the namesake . Although he died before he could ever visit the island, Jose de Evia charted the Galveston Bay area. Afterwards Galveston rose in importance as a port. The island had some of the largest shipping and trading businesses in the US. Subsequently Galveston trailed behind the explosive growth of its neighbor, Houston. However the legacy of the opulence and success remains today. Finally Galveston Island Historic Homes display this success.

  1. Love Galveston! It is so ‘worldly’ for Texas as our state overall has a vastly different perspective to others…don’t ya think??
