Birds of 2021 – Images from a Year

This page hosts a galley of Birds I have managed to photograph in 2021. I will update this page frequently throughout the year.

Many of the images are very local. Many come from within my 5MR (Five mile radius). Others across adjacent counties and others across the state of Texas. I will expand the radius as time goes on however my county in Texas supports a large number of species. Observers have documented 424 species in Harris County Texas alone.

The state of Texas has recorded 672 674 species and the lower 48 states have seen 1,101 1,016 species.

When you add in Mexico, Alaska and Canada the total jumps to 2,141 2,160 species.

The Western Hemisphere hosts 4678 4729 species and the entire World hosts an astonishing 10,517 10,622 species.

The numbers above come from and credited to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and are current as of 10/19/2021. Cornell is a foremost source for avian data and research. The lab provides a method to capture citizen science through observation and submission of bird sightings worldwide.

My objective here is to try to photograph as many Birds of 2021 with the best photos possible. Some birds are very difficult to photograph. It is not always possible to capture the quality of image that I strive for. Additionally I prefer to capture images of the bird engaging in typical behavior. This too is not always possible. Sometimes I have to settle for a quick capture in a fleeting moment. As a result, I will replace existing photos with improvements whenever possible. Reality may change the outcome but regardless, it will be a fun endeavor and a good excuse to get out and walk.

Comments are always welcome.
