The 2nd Amendment. The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. Never forget that these are the tools that prevent the domination of the citizenry by a tyrannical government. Certainly everyone needs to understand the fundamental importance of the amendment.
The text of the amendment as ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson goes like this. “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed”.
In addition the 2008 case District of Columbia v. Heller, the Supreme Court held that the “Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.” In striking down Washington D.C.’s handgun ban by a 5-4 vote, the Supreme Court’s decision in D.C. v. Heller held for the first time that the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. Regardless of the attack of Constitutional Rights by certain sectors of the population, this argument has been put to rest and is now a strong precedent that requires diligent protection.
