I dredged these photos up from a long ago, but not forgotten trip. – Osprey and Bougainville Reefs in the Coral Sea and the Great Barrier Reef – Queensland Australia. Osprey and Bougainville Reefs are both remote dive sites, located northeast of Cairns Australia. They erupt from deep oceanic waters with about 100 miles separating each. The travel time is long but the rewards are great. The sites are only visited by live aboard vessels, for multi-day trips. This is a must-do for any diver who wants the ultimate in marine life, water clarity and adventure. These sites provide almost unlimited variety. Most dive sites are along the leeward sides of both reefs. A live aboard trip can combine both reefs and some additional dives. Adding in the Northern Barrier Reef makes the trip about 10 days. A stop at the Cod Hole is a good addition to this trip. Link here to some photos of the Cod Hole and its massive guardians. In addition to the diving a visit to Cairns, located in northern Queensland is a pleasure. Cairns has a tropical climate and land adventures into the rain forest and outback are available. Visiting the “Land Down Under” is something everyone should do, especially the avid diver.
