Hurricane Ike Makes Landfall

Hurricane Ike Makes Landfall on the Texas coast. We experienced STRONG winds for about 12 hrs. We were very lucky and sustained only minor damage and no flooding. It will always be a night to remember. This photo was taken from the TV radar image as the eye passed over our neighborhood. Surprisingly we had electricity for the duration of the storm, unlike most of our neighbors. As you can see the current wind speed was 110 mph, make Ike a very strong Category 2 storm. This coupled with the large size made Ike the costliest hurricane in Texas history and the 3rd costliest in US history.
