Made a fast weekend King Ranch Trip. Coastal South Texas has an amazing amount of wildlife in the ranch country. A great time was had by all. Below is a view flying back into Houston on a pleasant December day. Rancho de Santa Gertrudis ( later to be The King Ranch) was founded in 1853. It all began with the purchase of the Rincon de Santa Gertrudis land grant.The King Ranch has a long history and is famous for developing the Santa Gertrudis cattle breed. The Santa Gertrudis is recognized by the U.S. Dept of Agriculture as first beef breed ever produced in America.
The King Ranch has a long and rich history that continues today. The ranch has expanded operations beyond ranching. Activities include hunting, farming and commercial licensing of the King Ranch name and logo. Additionally a citrus operation in Florida makes the King Ranch the largest juice orange producer in the United States . The King Ranch Florida sod farms sell between 250,000 and 700,000 square feet of sod daily.
