Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge 8/26

A fast trip to Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge in late August does not reveal many early migrants. However the residents are alive and well. The fall migration should be in full swing soon and another trip is in order. Migrating waders and shorebirds marshes will crowd the marsh. I spent more time watching the alligators than the birds. Brazoria is home to a healthy population of American Alligators. There are also some very large specimens roving the refuge. I have seen multiple gators in the 10+ foot class. I am very careful when exploring on foot. Especially in the breeding and nesting season. The big males become aggressive and females guard nest sites ferociously.
