Trip Report Big Bend Nov 2, 2012 – Final day, the Long Way Home

A Trip Report Big Bend is always something I do, so here it is. I was not ready to leave yet, and could have easily enjoyed a few more days, but duty called and I packed up to head east at 07:45. There had been no clouds all week in the area and sunrise and sunsets lacked that one necessary feature to make them great. This morning was a bit different and I got a nice sunrise sendoff as I headed toward Persimmon Gap. On my way back I detoured through Austin to have dinner with my eldest and arrived back in HTown about 22:00. It was a long day, but I’m ready to go back already.

This is the last installment, but I’ve added some pics, and consolidated all the day’s photos into one page too, so if you want to look,  it’s a one-stop shop!

A few additional notes from the trip:

  1. Amistad was down at least 20 ft. – Lowest I have ever seen it.
  2. Gas at Sanderson was $3.639
  3. Higher at $3.805 at RGV
  4. Gas at Junction is a rip-off, but it always has been.
  5. The park is sign happy these days. There are signs all over the place, especially around the Basin/Lodge area.
  6. Late Oct-Early November is about as perfect as it gets in Big Bend. Great weather, no people…
  7.  A lot of people are clueless about life…
  8.  Finally….”It’s all about the light”
