Daily Photos – Galveston Island Historic Homes

I took an early morning drive to Galveston to catch the light and a few pictures of some Galveston Island Historic Homes. Galveston has some great old homes from the late 1800’s and many are kept in immaculate condition by private owners with the local historical society. It’s worth a look. Galveston is named for the Spanish Governor and General Bernardo de Galvez. Although he died before he could ever visit the island, Jose de Evia charted the Galveston Bay area. Galveston rose in importance as a port, and had some of the largest and most shipping and trading businesses in the US. Finally left behind by the explosive growth of its neighbor, Houston, the legacy of the opulence and success remains today in a variety of Galveston Island Historic Homes
