Carolina Wrens in Texas

The Carolina Wrens in Texas are a common sight and sound throughout the entire year. These resident and breeding birds visit my yard perpetually. They creep around the trees and bushes constantly in search of insects and fruit. They explore everything and are very vocal, calling frequently. Carolina Wrens in Texas defend their territories with constant singing and aggressively chase off intruders.

This year my resident wrens decided to nest in my pool net. When I saw them hopping in and out of it, I quickly put up a nest box. I hoped they would choose it as a better and safer option. Unfortunately, they didn’t and proceeded to build in the net. I should have put a stop to that before it was too late. However they eventually deposited eggs and now the nestlings have hatched. The parents have been bringing a constant supply of insects to the net for the past week. After that it won’t be long before the young fledglings are out and about. Hopefully in a few more days I can retake my pool net back and do a bit of a better job in keeping the pool clean.

Since Carolina Wrens in Texas can raise up to 3 broods per year, I am going to highly discourage them from taking over my net again! They need to use the nest box or find another suitable place in the yard!

Check out my Brazoria Bird Collection for more local bird photos.
