Wings over Houston 2014 is the latest in a series of annual events that I try to photo. The venue is Ellington Field on the southeast side of Houston, TX. NASA, The Texas Air National Guard, the Coast Guard, and various shippers, like FEDEX use Ellington Field. When the presidents come to Houston, Air Force 1 typically lands at Ellington. In addition I have heard that there are also plans to have a spaceport there some day.
This year, I planned to shoot some photos, except only being able to free up enough time to do the headliners. Wings over Houston 2014 has so many participants, it is difficult to say that one is the best. However each year the crowd seems to be anxiously awaiting the precision flying teams. There is a fairly regular rotation between The Thunderbirds, The Snowbirds and The Blue Angels. If you’re not familiar, The Thunderbirds are the Air Force team. The Snowbirds are the Canadian Air Force Team. The Blue Angels are the Navy F/A-18 “Hornet Drivers”.
The Photos
As always, Wings over Houston is enjoyed by all and this year was no exception. Someday I actually plan to attend the runway and apron exhibits. However today I just went to my usual neighborhood cul-de-sac and parked. Despite the poor lighting conditions from my vantage point, I managed to squeeze off a few photos that I’m not too disappointed with.
As I mentioned, time was at a premium today, so all of the photos are of the Blue Angels. Hope you enjoy!
Great pics! So glad I could see them fly over the house today.
