Brazoria Birds – Hello my old friends…

I made a reflective trip to see some  Brazoria birds this afternoon with my camera and my thoughts. I was alone and although the fall migration is underway, it’s still early for the large flocks of migrating shorebirds, ducks and geese. It was good to see some of my old friends there. In addition I did capture a few images and saw one migrating Merlin.

In addition I came across a pair of Caracaras that didn’t seem to mind a relatively close approach in my vehicle. Using it as I blind, I was able to grab a few images of these handsome and unique birds. During 2012, I took multiple trips to observe Brazoria birds during the fall migration. My objective was to observe as many species as possible and to document the change over time. Migrant arrival follows the passage of early cold fronts.

Birds attune to the weather systems that make their migration the most efficient in terms of time and energy expended. There was a close correlation between the arrival of frontal systems and the arrival of fresh waves of migrants. An image summary of my 2012 observations  can be found at Brazoria NWR Photo Collection. This page chronicles a month of observations in October of 2012.
