A few more bird pics…..Brazoria NWR Texas

Just a few more bird pics from Brazoria NWR Texas….. to add to the collection. I’m trying out a new gallery layout, and hope it is more friendly. Brazoria NWR; San Bernard NWR and Big Boggy are all part of the Texas Mid-Coast Refuge Complex. These marshes are important resting stops for both north and south bound migrants. Salt and freshwater marshes, sloughs, ponds, coastal prairies, and bottom land forest provide habitat for other fauna including alligator, white-tailed deer, coyote and bobcat to name a few.

In winter, more than 100,000 snow geese, Canada geese, and many species of ducks visit the refuge. In addition Pintail, shovelers, 3 species of teal, along with multitudes of shorebirds and other waders are common. If you visit in the winter or during migration, in is not unusual to see a Bald Eagle or a Peregrine Falcon. On this particular trip, I encountered a hunting Peregrine. Although the photo was taken from quite a distance, it’s always nice to see them there.

I’m lucky to live pretty close to all of the refuges in the coastal complex. About 45 minute drive on uncrowded roads takes me to the refuge. Each one is a little different and I make frequent trips to Brazoria NWR and have many, many photos. These are just a few.

A compilation of additional photos highlighting Brazoria NWR can be found here.

More detail on the refuge can be found by visiting the USFWS web presence.
