Houston Commute Traffic

Houston Commute Traffic is infamous. We are not LA, or NY, but we have plenty of bottlenecks, and slowdowns everyday on the freeways. Distance Driven 21 miles. How many roundtrip miles do you drive every day to work? The average downtown Houston worker commutes 21 miles each way, round tripping 42 miles each and every work day! About half of downtown commuters use some method other than driving alone, including carpooling, bus or light rail. Unfortunately for many, me included, that is not practical. So…each day I hit the road and make my foray into the city. By the time I return home each night I usually clock somewhere in the 70 mile range. The drive is not insane like some places I’ve been. Most of the commuters know their route and are pretty orderly. It’s not a problem with the drivers, there are just too many of us.

I made this video of a trip into work on a light traffic day in the summer. It was a Friday morning, during school summer vacation. This is the lightest workday traffic situation that we see in Houston commute traffic. This 40 minute drive is compressed into a few scant minutes. Enjoy……
