The Mexican mango season is underway. The Ataulfo mango, known for its sweet smooth flesh comes mostly from the Mexican states of Michoacan, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Veracruz and Chiapas. I had a request today for some tasty cookies. Rising to the occasion, a batch of chewy oatmeal raisin cookies appeared after a brief journey from the mixer to the oven. Everyone was pleased and I had Cabernet instead!
I’m still fighting the invasion of the overactive lemon tree. In the latest attempt to use as many lemons as possible, a lemon meringue pie appeared in the kitchen tonight. I’m going to have to become more creative if I’m ever going to utilize all of this years crop.
The lemon tree in my yard has started its annual offering of ripened lemons. I have an Improved Meyer Lemon Tree that is prolific. The tree can produce up to four hundred lemons in a good year. This year is a bumper crop and there is only so much lemonade one can drink. I give

To make banana bread I harvested a pile of bananas from my backyard trees and had to do something with them before they spoiled. So banana breads fill the kitchen with their fragrance. My trees are the Orinoco variety. Orinoco is the most common banana grown all along the Gulf Coast. Orinocos reliably produces medium-sized fruits.
