Multiple trips to Italy left me with fond memories of food and history. I pulled up a few photos of Italy from the Archives to share with you. I made trips in the 80’s and 90’s, both work related and private. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit Rome, Florence, Venice and many smaller towns in between. One trip was part of a larger 30 day excursion on the train, starting in Munich, Germany and heading south through Austria and Italy, before circling back through France and Switzerland and eventually returning to Munich. A work related trip put me in Northern Italy in the region around Milan. I spent two weeks based in Piacenza in the Po River Valley very close to Parma. One of the best parts of being in Italy, is the food. It’s almost impossible not to find a good meal almost anywhere in Italy and this includes the Railway Worker’s Cafeterias. The different regions of Italy all have their own style, but it’s all good!
The island of Murano is home to Venetian glass. A fear of fire destroying Venice’s wooden buildings forced glassmakers to move to Murano in 1291
The Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Florence and still has shops built on it.
The Roman Forum was the center of day-to-day life in Rome for centuries. It was a market and gathering place for various events.
The dome of St. Peter’s is 448.1 ft above from the floor of the basilica to the cross. It is the tallest dome in the world.
