Big Bend Feb 2013 – The Desert

Big Bend Feb 2013 – The Desert. About 6 weeks ago, I looked at the tour calendar of the Rock Art Foundation and saw the opportunity to combine a trip to the Halo Shelter with a trip farther west to Big Bend. I hadn’t been there since my  Fall 2012 trip, and it was about time for another road-trip.

I left Houston on a Friday morning, and took a relaxing drive as far as Seminole Canyon. Two nights there including the Halo Shelter trip and I was off to Big Bend on an early Sunday Morning drive. It seemed like in almost no time at all I was slipping into the Basin and setting up camp. I arrived at 09:30 and was ready to do a short hike to warm up the legs and smell the desert once again.

The weather was mainly overcast and a bit windy, but not cold. A perfect day for a desert hike. I have wanted to check out Rough and Burnham Springs for a long time. However it always seemed like something got in the way. This was a perfect short hike for arrival day. The views were good, the geology was interesting and Rough Spring had abundant water and Burnham was dry…..

At last here is a map of the track – 6.2 miles for the day
