Texas wildflowers are blooming this spring. After several wet seasons and a wet winter, West Central Texas is experiencing a bountiful spring eruption of color. A short trip to the western edge of the Edwards Plateau revealed some of nature’s beauty.
Bluebonnets are a common Texas wildflower. Additionally they are the state flower of Texas. Their deep blue and tall stature makes them easily recognizable.
The Yellow Butter cup was especially abundant in the area I visited.
Firstly each day started with a brilliant sunrise.
Later ended with a beautiful sunset
The cactus, like this Claret Cup also joined the Texas wildflower show.
The Claret cups are one the most beautiful of the cacti on the Edwards Plateau. The claret cup grows in clumps usually less than 3-4 feet across. Bright red flowers cover the plant. In addition they are long lasting, sometimes many days. The flowers can be almost orange as a result of the soil type where they are found.
You shouldn’t miss the Texas wildflowers season. Take a trip or just a short drive almost anywhere in the state. Finally, the spring of 2019 seems to be an exceptional year. Get out and enjoy!
Some Fall 2020 additions from the Western Edwards Plateau.
